If you’ve spent some time in the woods, you’ve probably seen a tree mushroom before. These ornate and often multi-colored organisms grow only on living or decomposing trees, and there is a large variety of them in the Earth’s forests.
But did you know that many of these are superfoods?
In today’s video, I am joined by special guest Tero Isokauppila, a Finnish wildcrafter who is on a mission to bring medicinal mushrooms to the world. He and I delve into 3 of the most powerful tree mushrooms yet known and the conditions they treat. We also discuss their ancestral origins and the scientific support for their use.
Tero and I will be covering:
Reishi – The mushroom of immortality
Chaga – A cancer-fighting mushroom, known as the “king of herbs”
Lion’s Mane – A delicious fungi for brain health, clarity, and enhanced memory

I drink Chaga…when I first started, I drank it daily. I have MS and an overactive bladder to go with that diagnosis. WELL…I noticed it was getting harder and harder to pee…so I quit taking the medication (generic oxybutinen) and that seemed to fix the issue. I talked w/my doc about it and told him the only thing I’m doing differently is drinking Chaga. He said “That’s it!”….now, I drink a cup usually every 3 days and I’ve been off the meds for over a year now….and yeah..I have accidents…but that’s MS related….Chaga fixed that issue as far as I’m concerned…..Thank you Universe for this medication! OH..and my lil bro is a bushman….there’s no lack of chaga in this house! I’m in the Great White North, in Michigan’s U.P. and they say the further north you go, the stronger the meds in the Chaga! I love this stuff….our healing medicines are growing out there…we just don’t have them yet!! <3
Great Donna…is it 2:51 PM in Michigan already ?
Wow! Thanks for sharing! I have a friend you got MS 20 years ago,and she’s never heard of this drink! We are going to try it! We live in GR,Michigan! Thank you again! Sincerely, Melissa VerDuin
I am very interested in resources for quality products
Hello, Didi.
I can speak for the high potency and purity of the mushroom extracts I take, which have helped and continue to help me tremendously. Would you like some info?
Jennifer
Hi there! I think you guys are awesome! Thank you for sharing and caring! Sincerely, Melissa VerDuin (616)304-4307
Being an organizer/coordinator/experimenter & co-founder of Naturalism, Inc. (drug rescue service), we could have applied Tero’s medicinal mushroom knowledge as far back as the ’70s…hopefully, orgs such as the Beckley Foundation will take notice and do their thing to bring this knowledge forward and publically available.
I just wanted to point out at it is misleading and potentially dangerous to label all tree mushrooms as “safe”. As most polypores are not deadly poisonous, but some may cause severe gastrointestinal distress. There are several species of mushrooms that grow off of dead trees that can cause serious harm, specifically the deadly galerina. Jack O’ Lantern mushrooms can wreak havok on the digestion system as well. Make sure you know what you’re doing before you start harvesting wild mushrooms!
I agree, and there are even some that are poisonous and will flat out kill you that grow and trees. They shouldn’t say such things, this is the kind of information that gets people killed.
Thank you so much, loved that interview, have always been drawn to mushrooms, would like to buy the mushroom hot choc for my sons skin condition and mushroom coffee for my digestive probs and mushroom chic for my other son dyslexia, help with brain clarity. V excited about this. Thank you. From England x
Really enjoyed the interview. Thank you! Very interesting and the information makes one want to research more on mushrooms. Mother Nature – WOW!
HI NICK & HAPPY THURSDAY. I WAS FAIRLY EXCITED TO SEE & HEAR YOU SPEAKING OF THE AWESOME MUSHROOMS. I HAVE BEEN HARVESTING & DRINKING MY OWN CHAGA FOR ALMOST A YEAR NOW. VERY BLESSED TO HAVE IT PRETTY MUCH IN MY OWN BACKYARD. THERE REALLY IS SOME VERY NEAR TO ME. WE LIVE OUT OF ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE, ALBERTA. WOULD LOVE TO GET SOME REALLY HIGH QUALITY REISHI & LION’S MANE. ALSO HOPING TO TRY OUT THE PACKAGE. I HAVE A QUESTION – DOES EVERYBODY RESPORE TO THE FOREST THE CHAGA THAT THEY HAVE REUSED OR EVEN THE BITS THAT AREN’T QUITE TEA QUALITY. ALSO. THAT IS WHAT WE DO. SO THAT MORE WILL GROW. CHAGA DOESN’T GROW ON EVERY BIRCH TREE. I USE A SLOW COOKER AND DO MINE 48 HOURS, UNDER 180 DEGREES. STRAIN & REFRIGERATE THE CONCENTRATE. THEN MIX WITH WHATEVER, USUALLY WATER THO. I ALSO DRY OUT WHAT I HAVE USED & CAN REUSE IT UP TO A MAXIMUM OF 4 TIMES. WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON THIS PLEASE? I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU. ITS FUNNY I FIRST SAW IT AT A SMALL CAFE NEXT TO A COMPOUNDING PHARMACY, IN SASKATCHEWAN. BOUGHT SOME, TOLD MY FRIEND ABOUT IT & WE BOTH GOT SO EXCITED & WENT HARVESTING OUR OWN!!! YAY. THANKS AGAIN
Loved this interview – fascinating to learn! Been wanting to include mushrooms more in my diet for some time esp when I learned a yr or so ago about the underground communication between plants and trees
Your information is amazing and I thank you very much. I have had cancer and went through the regular protocol for my type of cancer. Hubby and I take a great mushroom complex and drink Chaga.
EXCELLENT video! Thank your for sharing this and introducing me to this company. I’m going to go buy some tea now. 🙂 I very much appreciate all that you open my eyes to.
Thanks for this wonderful info. Where can I get good quality mushrooms? There are a zillion vendors online, even Walmart (gross) sells them.
Can you also offer any information with regards to fresh, dried, powdered, etc…which is most beneficial to health and has the highest healing properties. I feel the least processed is best, but wondering if the powdered forms are helpful as well.
Really appreciate any info. With gratitude, Joy
