Wildcrafting Plant Medicine
 – The Sacred Way

We’re deep into spring and many of our medicinal weeds, herbs and edible wild foods are beginning to grow. Harvesting from the wild is truly a magical experience, and when done correctly, it can nourish the relationship of people and plants. Many of us herbalists have places we return to in the wild to harvest our plants. When we ethically wildcraft, not only do we ensure that there will be an abundance of medicine the following year to harvest, we also begin to develop a relationship with ... [Read more...]

Elemental Balance: Earth and Air Within Us

As I circle with my students in classes, a common theme is how intense things have been, with the recent full moon eclipse and then the mercury retrograde. In response, the spirits of the Earth whispered in my ear: We are here. We can receive it all. Lay your worries on the Earth. Ground and we will hold you. Enter Libra. The sign of balance – an air sign striving for harmony, beauty, equality, with a theme around relationships. This energy arrives on the New Moon – a time to find ... [Read more...]

Phase Shift: Synchronizing With The Moon (Part 2)

Last time, in Part I, we discussed different ways to bring the rhythms of the moon into your body and life, at any point during the month. This time, we’ll explore what we can do during certain phases to maximize her power. By inviting the moon into our bodies, we can become more aware of what energies are present in each of her phases, and thus can call upon them to support our intentions, rituals, spiritual practices, emotions and life. New Moon / Crone Moon The night is dark, no moon in ... [Read more...]

Lunar Power: Harvesting the Moon’s Energy (Part 1)

As we journey through life, the rhythms of nature are echoed in our emotions, energy levels, dreams and aspirations. In the Spring, we feel ourselves awakening with new found joy & vitality, while in the Fall, we savor the fruit of our labor, appreciating our abundant harvests as we turn inward after an active summer. By weaving a web of connection between the four directions, the seasons, times of day, phases of the moon, and stages of creation, we are able to align our bodies with the ... [Read more...]

Spring is here! Birds are laying eggs and joyfully singing in the morning. Wildflowers are popping up and fruit trees are blossoming as bees and butterflies swirl in the breeze. Spring is a time of earth renewal and whether we are conscious of it or not, we may notice that in our ancient bones we too are feeling ... [Read more...]

Eating Wildness

I recently was reminded of the fear many people have of eating the wildness of the world. I had harvested some flowering rosemary for my students to offer folks at an upcoming event. I suggested they invite people to eat the flower of the rosemary plant – what a delight it is to pinch off the little periwinkle flowers and place them on your tongue! The delicate pedals dissolve in a wave of rosemary flavor! It is delicious, delightful and a beautiful new way to experience an old herbal ... [Read more...]

Fire Medicine – An Ancient Elixir and Shamanic Recipe

In the cold stillness of winter, stagnation may occur. We may feel the dampness in our bones, the cold in our hands and feet, the sluggishness in our digestion. Our inner sun, our digestive fire, the flame of our solar plexus may be in need of some kindling. Take a moment to check in with the fire in your body. A deficient fire may manifest as sluggish digestion, low energy, low self-esteem, and physical or emotional coldness. A fire in excess may manifest as an overly aggressive or controlling...
