There exists an inner tool that gifted healers and herbalists utilize in their work, almost as second nature. It has been said by shamans and wise women alike that our imagination is far more powerful than we think it is.
In indigenous cultures worldwide, the imagination is seen as a portal into the higher realms.
This mental muscle has been co-opted, categorized, and brought under control in our modern society. We’re taught that our imagination is there solely for “creative” purposes like arts and crafts… maybe song writing and poetry for those courageous enough to put themselves out there.
But this innate ability to conjure visions, to hear sounds, to move our body in our own unique way… constructing mini realities that the rest of the world has not seen or heard before… can also be used as a bridge between this world and the realm of spirit.
This is old news to the mystics and mad geniuses who have been walking this earth for thousands of years.
The late great Stephen Harrod Buhner put it beautifully when he said:
“Real art connects artists and their art, and those who experience their art with the metaphysical background of the world… to the imaginal world that lies deep within the physical. That is, in part, its ecological function”.
Want a demonstration? That’s exactly where we’re going in today’s piece.
I want to introduce you to my dear friend Dan Hochman — an extraordinary musician, songwriter, and human being. The music he creates is a sacred science of its own.
The other day, we sat down together for an intimate conversation about his creative process and the deeper currents that move through his music. What unfolded felt less like an interview and more like a remembering — of connection and what it means to channel the energies that are flowing through us.
In the short clip below, Dan shares a new song from his upcoming album. I think it will add some beauty to your day. The song is called “Are You Watching?” and it’s about diving into your trauma and transmuting that pain into wisdom. His words align so much with the healing work that we speak about at The Sacred Science — it feels like a lyrical complement to the spirit path that we are all walking.
Join us for this special Sacred Science podcast segment on how to harness creativity as a bridge into the soul.
If You Are Moved By These Sacred Sounds…
You probably already know this, but the music industry (and the movie industry) is going through quite a moment right now. Artists are not getting compensated the way they should, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to be a true creative these days.
You’ve already heard this story I’m sure… big corporations bullying the talent and squeezing the magic out of something beautiful. Platforms like Spotify, Amazon, and Apple are reaping immense profits by playing the middleman between musician and listener, and have essentially turned into large data collection companies.
Things have to change.
To shake things up, Dan and I decided to try out a new way. We want to intimately involve you, the listener, with his beautiful music and also give you a little energetic ownership of his blossoming work.
Dan has started a Kickstarter page where he is giving away some pretty incredible perks in return for a little monetary love. We’ve worked together to create some pretty awesome goodies for anyone who tosses a few bucks into his hat — these include secret songs, our full two-hour podcast interview, a live songwriter’s workshop (we all have a song inside of us – what is yours?), and more… Dan’s even willing to write a song for a special person in your life…
We are entering a new era of connection, honesty, and community. I’m excited (and slightly nervous) to see how many people step forward to support the arts and build a real relationship with the music they listen to.
If this calls to you…

Really enjoyed this interview and hearing Dan’s honest and pertinent song, pertinent to our times. I am wondering whether Dan would be willing to work with me as a guitarist to accompany me on some remarkable melodies that have come to me?
Love the interview and especially the song. Thank you being vulnerable and sharing it with us. ❤️
