I want to share something close to my heart—an organization whose bold work was an inspiration for The Sacred Science, my first film.
It’s called the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS)—a trailblazing nonprofit that was transforming minds and reforming policies long before psychedelics became a trend.
MAPS gave me the courage to tell the story I didn’t know the world was ready for. It showed me I wasn’t alone in my appreciation for the power of sacred plant medicines. And I know it did the same for so many others.
Recently, I had the honor of sitting down with two incredible voices from MAPS – Amy Emerson and Gagan Levy – to talk about the incredible work they are doing. From research to culture to policy, these two have been on the frontlines of this rapidly shifting landscape.
We covered a lot: from our earliest (and most questionable) drug “education” experiences, to groundbreaking studies showing how MDMA is helping veterans and trauma survivors heal from severe PTSD – even in war-torn areas like Ukraine. And how psilocybin mushrooms are offering profound relief to those facing depression and end-of-life anxiety… helping people find peace, connection, and meaning when it matters most.
We also dove into the science of neuroplasticity and the importance of integration after having any journey into altered states of consciousness.

If this talk lights something up in you, I highly recommend checking out the Psychedelic Science Conference, happening June 16–20 in Denver. I’ll be there, and I’ve got a gift for you:

*Can’t make it to Denver?
Good news — a free live cast will be available for those tuning in from afar – keep an eye on their website for announcements on how to access it from anywhere in the world.
That said, if you can get there in person… this is the one to show up for.
Stay curious,

Hello Nick,
Thank you for what you do. I enjoyed watching the docuseries, “Remedy: Ancient Medicine for Modern Illness.”
I would like to speak with you about the nonprofit organization I have created which I believe will provide the foundation for what you are trying to accomplish without requiring political change.
Thank you for this comprehensive information. I’ve enjoyed your offerings via The Sacred Science – what mind blowing, amazing and life changing ideas and practices. So very pleased at this information about psychedelic options to contribute to wellness and happiness coming from sources your’ve vetted – so I feel I can trust. I have been interested in psychedelic options for over 50 years, having spent the first part of my career working with psychologists – but I never found anyone I wanted to trust about a substance about which I felt uninformed. I’m excited at this resurgence by dedicated and active people.
