One of the most powerful things that we’re capable of as human beings is language.
Early humans likely communicated in grunts and hand gestures. But once the need for a more sophisticated level of communication arose, these primal impulses turned into a more complex series of sounds, and eventually – language. Today we’re able to voice our deepest feelings, lay out blueprints for sustainable power grids, and order off of multi-paged diner menus.
Language is mind-boggling. Think about it. I make some kind of a vibration in my body – a soundwave comes out of my mouth – it floats through the air – cruises into your ear – and your brain instantaneously conjures an image of what I am talking about.
It happens all day long, yet we take this brilliant bit of alchemy for granted.
The symbols I’ve written in this message are manifesting something very real in your mind this very moment. A yellow brick road that you can walk down.
Words have power.
They can help, hurt, heal, and hold you – just as strongly as the physical world around you.
The craziest part? You talk to yourself all day long… Everyone does it. Behind your eyelids, in the recesses of your consciousness, a ticker tape of thought is constantly scrolling.. whether you like it or not. It’s just a fact of life.
Those thoughts are made up of language – or words – which contain packets of reality that are far more powerful than you give them credit for.
What type of reality are your thoughts creating?
On the spirit path, one of the first things you learn is that your thoughts can (and MUST) be brought under control. In certain circumstances they can be wielded for their protective power, in others they need to be turned off entirely.
The ancients knew this and many spiritual texts give direct instruction on how to access the nonverbal realms. But our rational Western world has spoon fed us this notion that we better be thinking all the time, in order to survive and thrive in the real world. What most scientists, politicians, and pundits don’t understand is that a whole new realm of existence is available to us if we just quiet down the chatter and BE HERE NOW.
I used to have a fear that turning the volume down to 0 on the thoughts rattling in my skull was the equivalent to some kind of death.
But I’ll let you in on a little hard won secret… a mantra that I come back to again and again every time I drop into meditation and descend into the wordless abyss…
The void is not empty.
When you stop the thought, you realize that all the learned labels and thought constructs have been preventing you from seeing what has been there all along.
A place of beauty, of healing, of wisdom, of spirit.
What does your self-talk say about your reality?
I invite you to partake in a simple exercise. Take five minutes to free-write everything that’s going on in your mind right now.
That’s it. But make sure to write down – as fast as you can – without editing yourself – everything that you’re currently thinking.
You might find that you can’t write fast enough. Do the best you can.
Sometimes by free writing, you are able to get things out of your mental periphery (good or bad) that you didn’t even know were there.
Take five minutes. Tap directly into your ticker tape of thought. Write as fast as you can.
Fast, loose, raw, ugly. Just get it out.
Once you have it out, step away for a few moments to clear your mind. Then return to your pad or sheet of paper and read what you wrote.
Is there something there that you weren’t aware of before? Oftentimes there is…
The point of this exercise is to get all of your sneaky self talk out in front of you, so that you can acknowledge it, work with it, and release what isn’t serving you.
Your words have power. It’s time to rewrite the script.

Thanks, Nick, for all the wonderful ideas, activities, or thoughtful moments you bring up. I am not in a position to purchase your Docuseries, but I listen to them as you bring them forward.
Many thanks,

Thank you, this story resonates with me, realizing that I self talk a lot of BS. Thank you for spending the time in putting together so much content to help others. Have an excellent holiday season!
Recent analysis has even proven that one’s thoughts can change their DNA – AMAZING !
It sounds interesting. I’ll try it some other time.

Thoughts as in epigenetic environment, nurture? Soil?
Can we tend our thoughts as we tend a garden? Beautify it?
An intriguing thought. Thank you!
Thanks Nick! It’s nice to be reminded and refreshed every now and then 😊. I really enjoy your work. I appreciate all you put into it.
Thanks Nick,
What about the Spell-ing, words we say everyday i.e. to release (means to lease again),
Bless (B-Less), Tel-a-vision, A-E-I-O-U (I owe you) etc. I believe there is a list somewhere but haven’t see it.
Wowww…as I’m constantly singing everybody say Blessed🎶
Your thoughts go right along with my former training. In a teacher training to help learning handicapped students, I heard about a doctor who put electrical sensor patches on someone’s head. The patches were hooked to a computer to show the brain function. The dr asked the person to talk and answer questions. The Dr discovered that certain negative words caused the subject’s brain to shut down to their flight or fright center of the brain. For example, when the person said “try”, the person’s brain on the computer monitor showed their brain had shut down. As a teacher, I taught my students that only positive words would be allowed in my classroom that would encourage and inspire. This created an atmosphere that helped everyone do their best. The whole classroom atmosphere changed to positive and even the behavior of students who had a reputation of misbehavior quickly changed. If I speak negative words, it is as if I am stealing part of someone’s life or wellbeing. I therefore must endevor to always speak positive words to build up people so each can reach their best potential.
Thank you Nick. Your words are always thought-provoking (in a good way!) and I value highly all the learning, ideas, prayers and wisdom you share so generously. You and the work you do are amazing and make a steadily positive difference to my life and that of many others. Thank you again, you are very much appreciated.
It is said when there is absolute silence the ultimate reality or divinity is reflected.Words can only
speculate. I like to pause and ask am I present, relaxed, with an open heart?
