From such a young age, we’re taught by society to ignore our bodies’ quiet wisdom. I remember being told to “sit still,” “be quiet,” or “wait to use the bathroom”—messages that seemed small at the time, but added up to something big: a habit of overriding my own needs. Of not listening.
It’s no wonder that many of us live from the neck up—cut off from the grounded intelligence of the body.
What would it feel like to come back home to ourselves? To partner with our bodies instead of trying to control them? To let sensation, breath, and movement guide us?
That’s what Jamie McHugh’s somatic healing work is all about. A sought after master out of Northern California, he uses breath, vocalization, contact, movement, and stillness to create new pathways in the body. As Jamie sees it, these technologies are portals of reconnection to ourselves, each other, and the planet.
In the clip below, Jamie shares something that really moved me: a reflection on how modern life has truncated our natural rhythms—and how we can begin to rewild ourselves again and remember who we were before the world told us how to be.
This is powerful stuff. I think you’ll feel something shift just by watching.

I think I am deeply in need of this kind of work. I feel stuck , fatigued, brain fogged, stressed and in physical pain.
I felt like that too Susan, there is hope. Begin your journey. Lionsmane mushrooms supplements may help with brain fog. Somatic bodywork in nature and journaling / Bradley Nelsons work has helped me. Be patient with yourself and go one step at a time, nature is a lovely gentle healer. God bless and help you on your healing journey
This makes total sense about the movement of the body. I believe this is the key to maintaining the health of our youth! As many age they tend to get sedentary which in turns creates a shutdown in our bodies and minds. Thank you for sharing.
I have some physical pain.
Such an amazing clip, it connects a lot of my thoughts as I try to mediate and align my inner thoughts with the outer world. Amazing!
